Macedonia, unfortunately was rather a transit country for me. Maybe it was the weather or the fact that we stayed in hostels 3 nights. The landscape around the Ohrid lake is beautiful though and in general we were surprised how little populated this area seemed to be. I suddenly felt like being back home: All the surprised faces disappeared and there were even women in the streets. The Macedonians were very relaxed and good mood greeting openly and we felt sympathy from the very beginning.

The city Ohrid is probably not representative for Macedonia: World cultural heritage and extremely old and beautiful. Unfortunately similarly touristy and expensive. Our hostel was great though and we spent some philosophical nights with travelers from all over – variety from our usual encounters and very interesting as well.

After all those nights in hostels with travelers and comfort, we were both happy to go back on the road.
